Richmond - Melbourne, Victoria 3121, Australia established in the 19th century is governed by the City of Yarra council, and has a colourful and interesting history.
Today it gives about 20,000 people their home and living area on about 4 square kilometres.
Richmond is an inner city suburb of Melbourne found in the middle of the following suburbs:
Abbotsford, Burnley, Collingwood, Cremorne, East Melbourne, Hawthorn and South Yarra.
Activities since the early 1990s Richmond now shows a variety of highly priced converted warehouse appartments, public high-rise flats and Victorian stile terrace houses. Whilst the retail sector is increasingly lively the industrial and manufacturing base is melting away.
Bridge Road is well known and mentioned in tourist tour guides for its factory outlets mainly selling textile products.
A 'must visit' for visitors is the Richmond Town Hall, all the Vietnamese restaurants and snack places at Victoria Street located at Richmond's north
housing as well the Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre. with lots of outlets and the northern European furniture brand known for their product range in pine.
Even the mayor landmark is DimmeyS warehouse Swan Street offers more entertainment venues some with live music like, The Corner Hotel, The Swan built in 1890, and The Rising Sun at the corner of Burnley Street. But here in Swan Street a bit furter down at number 450 you can enjoy an outstanding example of deconstructivist architecture by Ashton Raggart McDougall completed in 1995 and combining an old bank and a modern building. Not too far away still showing some elements of the original foyer and stage - The Burnley Theatre - today a commercial homewares shop.
In Church Street crossing and connecting all the named Streets you find not exactly a surprise - the church St Ignatius, but Churcher's Restaurant clost to it as well.
Relaxation for body and mind can be found at the beergarden of the Prince Alfred Hotel close to the river Yarra short before the church becomes a chapel - where Chapel street starts.
Naming all those Streets we can't leave out Punt Road, turning into Hoddle Street which is one of the main tangents connecting the outside world with Melbourne. Traffic jams are a every day picture for Punt Road, but connecting to the home ground of the Richmond Football Club therew are times it turns to a parking lane with no moving parts at all.

Richmond has some of Melbourne's best examples of residential architecture from periods accross the past found within plenty of small homes in narrow streets.

The Citizens Park at the Richmond Oval the largest park is bordering on Church and Higett Streets. Beside the Barkly Gardens and the Allen Bain Reserve one would find a number of smaller parks and relexation areas.

A funeral for Van Tuong Nguyen, who was executed in Singapore for drug smuggling, was held in 2005 at this Richmond's St James Parish. A memorial was held the day he was executed just before 9am, his scheduled execution.

The public transport system in Richmond involves a bus route, eight tram lines (number 24, 27 and 109 on Victoria Street, trams number 78 and 79 on Church Street, trams number 48 and 75 on Bridge Road and tram number 70 on Swan Street), a series of bicycle trails including the Capital City Trail and the Yarra River Trail as well as four train stations from which the Richmond railway station is a hub for trains to eastern and south-eastern suburbs including the Sandringham, Frankston, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines. The interchange for the Glen Waverley line North Richmond, East Richmond and West Richmond stations is the Burnley station.
